Write for Counter Notes
Counter Notes is read by people who cook, shop, eat out and pay attention to what is in their food. They are home cooks working through a recipe, diners deciding where to book, and shoppers reading the small print on a packet. Many of them work in food or hospitality, or write about it. They come here for clear, practical writing rather than press releases.
A contribution puts your name in front of that audience and gives you a permanent, indexed page to point to. If you have tested something in a kitchen, compared prices on a shelf or spent a week eating your way through a neighbourhood, we want to hear about it. If you want to write for us, read the notes below before you pitch.
What we publish
- Nutrition: how to read a label, what a nutrient claim actually means, and the evidence behind common diet advice.
- Food: ingredient guides, cooking technique, seasonality, and the practical side of buying and storing food.
- Restaurants: honest reviews, menu analysis, service and pricing, and the economics of eating out.
- Consumer: supermarket pricing, packaging claims, food safety, and the small decisions that add up at the till.
- Food business: how small producers, cafés and suppliers operate, and what changes on the high street mean for customers.
Guest posts and sponsored articles
We accept contributed editorial and paid placements. A guest post is written by you and edited by us; a sponsored post is commissioned or paid for by a brand and marked as such. Both are published permanently and indexed, and editorial links in contributed pieces are dofollow. Sponsored posts are disclosed where required by law or by the platform they appear on. Pricing is available on request, and we usually turn work around in three to five working days once a draft is agreed.
Guidelines
- Send original work that has not been published elsewhere, online or in print.
- Pitch pieces of 800 words or more. Shorter pieces are considered only if the subject is narrow and well covered.
- Include one or two relevant links at most, to sources a reader would genuinely find useful.
- Nothing illegal, defamatory or misleading. Claims about health and nutrition need a source.
- Gambling, adult and pharmaceutical subjects are considered case by case and must be relevant to our readers.
- An author bio is optional. If you send one, keep it to two sentences and one link.
- We edit for house style, clarity and length. You will see the edited draft before it goes live.
How to pitch
Email guestpost@weightcommander.com with a subject line in the form "Guest post: <topic>", for example "Guest post: what 'high in fibre' means on a cereal box". Include a short outline of 100 to 200 words covering the angle and what you will cover, and a link to one or two pieces of past work. If you have not written professionally before, send a short sample instead. We read every pitch and reply to most within a week. Before you submit an article, check it against our contributor guidelines above so we do not have to send it back.
Pitches, drafts and questions all go to guestpost@weightcommander.com. Use that address for anything to do with writing for the site, including requests for rates and our full contributor guidelines. We look forward to reading your work.
